Japanese photographer, Hiroshi Sugimoto. Sugimoto began this series in 1980 in locations worldwide. He used an old-fashioned large-format camera to make exposures of varying duration. In every example the horizon line bisects the image exactly in half. Sugimoto, himself, said of this body of work:"Water and air. So very commonplace are these substances, they hardly attract attention―and yet they vouchsafe our very existence.
